World’s Leading IoT Network Goes Live at the Hong Kong Science Park世界領先物聯網網絡成功登陸香港科技園

Internet of Things (IoT) provider Thinxtra announced the deployment of the Sigfox LPWA network to support the growth of an IoT research and development ecosystem in Hong Kong
物聯網(IoT)供應商Thinxtra宣布部署Sigfox LPWA網絡以支持香港物聯網研發生態系統的發展

As one of the partner companies of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), Thinxtra has launched its first Sigfox base stations and antennas at the Hong Kong Science Park, thereby providing  the  technology companies at the campus with access to an open LPWA (Low Power Wide Area) network that offers reliable connectivity for IoT devices.  Over 600 companies in the Science Park community will now be empowered to create new IoT sensors, develop devices and platforms, serving innovative applications for the betterment of business processes as well as people’s lives.

Murray Hankinson, Managing Director of Thinxtra Asia said, “With this installation at the Hong Kong Science Park, we have reached one of our first milestones for creating an exciting test bed for LPWAN IoT in Hong Kong. We chose to partner with HKSTP due to its leadership in innovation and the sharing of a common belief that Hong Kong has the potential to be a world-leading IoT design and manufacturing hub.”

HKSTP Chief Executive Officer Albert Wong said, “We are excited to have Thinxtra to join our community who  build a vibrant R&D ecosystem with us together to further enhance our three focused technology platforms: robotics, healthy ageing and smart city. IoT and big data analytics are two undeniable core elements for technology experts to cross boundaries in developing solutions that fit in with the development of the three platforms. The Park serves innovators as a test bed for latest solutions, with Thinxtra’s network; we believe more innovative ideas will be tried out here for a better Hong Kong.”

In addition to deploying an IoT network to empower innovation at Hong Kong Science Park, Thinxtra is also collaborating on IoT R&D and working with other local partners, such as Victory Concept, on the design of devices, sensors and solutions. Thinxtra has also announced the cornerstone investment by the Clean Energy Finance Corporation for empowering Hong Kong’s first territory wide network earlier this month.

IoT is already having a significant impact in diverse sectors worldwide, including asset tracking for industry, smart metering for utilities, health monitoring and smart logistics, as well as a wide range of smart building and smart city solutions.

Connecting these IoT solutions using traditional telecommunications technology is expensive and very power hungry. The Thinxtra IoT network makes connecting to the Internet viable for a great many more applications and is complementary to other communication options such as Bluetooth, RFID, 2G, 3G, 4G and Wifi. It is open and an extension of the global Sigfox network, based on antenna and base station infrastructure that is independent of existing telco networks.

Sigfox is the world’s most mature LPWA network and the first global network fully dedicated to connected objects. Thinxtra is its exclusive operator in Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong.
