Sydney, 25 June 2025 – Thinxtra, the Australian-based Internet of Things (IoT) solutions provider, today announced a strategic partnership with Akila, a global leader in digital twin and smart building technology.
This collaboration brings together Akila’s advanced digital twin platform which unifies energy, asset and carbon data with Thinxtra’s proven local expertise in deploying connected IoT infrastructure. Akila provides the software intelligence layer that enables real-time monitoring, AI-led system optimisation, and portfolio-level decision-making, while Thinxtra ensures reliable on-the-ground execution through expert integration, deployment and ongoing support. While the current focus is on energy management, the partnership is designed to scale across a wide range of connected building solutions to enhance efficiency, reduce waste and improve ESG outcomes.
The partnership is currently supporting the rollout of a smart building solution for a global retail brand with multiple commercial sites across Australia. This builds on several years of collaboration between Akila and the same brand in Asia, Europe and America covering over 4 million SQM. In Australia, Thinxtra ensures successful local implementation by managing hardware integration and connectivity services, while Akila leads project delivery with its core digital platform and AI.
“We’re proud to partner with Akila to bring smarter, more sustainable operations to life in Australia,” said Sam Sharief, Chief Operating Officer at Thinxtra. “The real value in any smart building project lies in turning raw data into actionable information, and doing it at scale. By combining Akila’s powerful platform with our local expertise in deploying connected solutions, we’re helping organisations unlock meaningful efficiencies, reduce waste and make faster, smarter decisions.”
The solution focuses on enabling data-driven energy management, providing customers with better visibility into consumption patterns, performance issues, and optimisation opportunities across their building portfolio. The solution is currently being deployed across 11 commercial sites throughout Australia, enabling energy monitoring, HVAC optimisation, asset management and carbon tracking. The rollout is expected to deliver up to 15–20% energy savings, improve operational efficiency, and support ESG compliance; laying the groundwork for scalable, portfolio-wide sustainability gains.
“Australia is a key market in Akila’s global expansion strategy, and Thinxtra has been an exceptional partner in turning our platform’s potential into real-world outcomes,” said Calvin Sun, Head of Asia Pacific, Akila. “Their local knowledge, professionalism, and technical execution give us confidence in scaling Akila projects throughout the region.”
Thinxtra and Akila plan to expand their collaboration in Australia beyond this initial deployment, with ambitions to grow into New Zealand and further serve the facility management sector. The partnership underscores the growing demand for digital solutions that enhance sustainability, compliance, and efficiency in building operations.
