FAQ — People Counting and Occupancy Monitoring
How accurate is AI people counting?
Accuracy depends on camera placement, lighting and how busy the entrance is. A well-positioned overhead camera at a single doorway counts far more reliably than a wide-angle camera watching a crowded atrium. We measure accuracy against a manual count during the proof of concept and tell you the number before you commit.
Do people counting cameras identify individuals?
No. VisionInsights detects the shape of a person and increments a count. There is no facial recognition, no identity matching and no re-identification between cameras. Detection runs on the Jetson device in your comms room, so what leaves site is a number, not an image.
Can we use our existing CCTV cameras?
Usually, yes. Any IP camera supporting RTSP or ONVIF can feed the edge device. Cameras mounted for security are sometimes angled poorly for counting, so we review your existing coverage first and only recommend new cameras where placement genuinely limits accuracy.
What does occupancy data actually save us?
Three things, in order of size: space, energy and labour. Occupancy evidence supports desk-sharing ratios and floor consolidation, which is the largest saving but a multi-year decision. Demand-led HVAC and cleaning are smaller and land inside one budget cycle. We size all three against your own contracts before quoting.
