Ticatag Strikes Strategic Multi-Million Deal with Thinxtra
Following the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona, Ticatag realised that the Thinxtra Global Solutions business unit, based in Hong Kong, could become the right ally to scale up Ticatag’s original range of Sigfox wireless consumer devices globally.
Over the past three years, Ticatag has developed the most advanced Geolocation tracker with an embedded alert button. The strength of Ticatag lies in its leading-edge software technology, a simple to use user interface app, and a complete platform to monitor multiple devices at once.
“Our idea was to combine the agility of Ticatag and its great skills in hardware and software development (app & platform) with the support of an Asian based manufacturer with deep Sigfox expertise to bring the best low-cost end-to-end solutions to the global market” said Yann Mac Garry, CEO of Ticatag.
Ticatag struck a deal with Thinxtra Global Solutions to secure access to lower cost and high quality manufacturing required to win a 100,000+ unit deals. In addition, partnering with Thinxtra in Hong Kong, the global IoT hub for distribution, will also fast track access to the 32 countries already covered by the Sigfox network.
The Ticatag device:
A unique tracking device (including GPS & WiFi sniffing for improved geolocation outdoor as well as indoor) with an alert button & BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) to connect via your phone and with the Sigfox connectivity to allow the device to work independently of your phone. Such Internet of Things consumer oriented device is the perfect tool for a new breed of business models: Button-as-a-Service.
Applications & use cases:
Just imagine, rental cars companies can now monitor where their vehicles are geolocated (independently of user), and can now provide an extra service, in case the customer has a problem, at the press of a button. Such new service could be also applied to commercial fleet of vehicles or trucks.
This also applies to many other industries that are renting assets (pallets, trailers, equipment, boats,…), or want to provide an emergency call service. The geolocation pings can monitor approximate distance which is sufficiently precise for implementing a predictive maintenance service. For example, a supplier of tyres could provide Tyre-as-a-service, based on number of km driven, instead of selling tyres. This type of business models already exist for large enterprises, but until now could not be applied to consumer markets due to the high cost of legacy tracking solutions.
“We are moving from a world of buying assets to a world of leasing assets as a service. This revolution already started with the cloud as a service. We see more and more Things-as-a-Service business models becoming reality as a consequence of the Internet of Things revolution. Ticatag is leading the market, and we are delighted to have been chosen as their partner of choice for low cost devices manufacturing to support their expansion and act as catalyst for global growth.” Said Loic Barancourt, CEO of Thinxtra
“Ticatag, as French start-up, could not dream of a better partnership to conquer the world” added Yann Mac Garry, CEO of Ticatag
Sigfox is the world’s leading provider of connectivity for the Internet of Things (IoT). The company has built a global network to connect billions of devices to the Internet while consuming as little energy as possible, as simply as possible. Sigfox’s unique approach to device-to-cloud communications addresses the three greatest barriers to global IoT adoption: cost, energy consumption, and global scalability.
