As an exclusive operator for Sigfox in Australia, New Zealand and now Hong Kong, Thinxtra invests to build the LPWA network and boost the IoT ecosystem across the region.
Hong Kong, December 15, 2016 – Thinxtra, Asia Pacific’s pure play Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure provider, is expanding into Hong Kong to empower organisations to use IoT to improve business processes and people’s lives. With Hong Kong as its first Asian market outside of Australia and New Zealand, Thinxtra will bring the world’s most mature and global LPWA network to the HK market and nurture local IoT partners as part of a global ecosystem of device makers, platform suppliers, system integrators and solutions developers.
As an exclusive operator in Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong for Sigfox, Thinxtra is now extending the Sigfox network across the region. It already has a live LPWA network covering much of the population of Australia and New Zealand, along with a local ecosystem of more than 100 IoT partners. Scheduled to launch in early 2017, the Thinxtra network in Hong Kong will be a territory-wide open IoT LPWA network that links to the other 28 nationwide Sigfox networks around the world.
“We’re bringing our expertise and experience to Hong Kong to support its ongoing transformation into a smart city and a leader in IoT adoption and development,” said Murray Hankinson, Managing Director of Thinxtra Asia. “We also see great potential for Hong Kong to be a world-leading design and manufacturing hub for IoT innovation, and we’re investing here to support this growth.”
With Thinxtra harnessing local talent and the IT community in Hong Kong to expand the international Sigfox ecosystem, IoT solutions developed here could be exported around the world. Thinxtra has already been working with Hong Kong Science and Technology Park on the research and development efforts, as well as the design of devices, sensors and solutions. Local businesses will benefit from access to the most advanced and mature global IoT network, along with solutions and services that span logistics, building and infrastructure management, utilities, healthcare, environmental monitoring and more.
“Thinxtra is an entrepreneurial business with the creativity and agility to support the growth of IoT in Hong Kong. You need an efficient, global and ubiquitous LPWA network to design and deliver IoT solutions that improve people lives and help businesses and industries grow. With Thinxtra and Sigfox, Hong Kong will have the necessary network and support to bring IoT solutions to life,” said Rodolphe Baronnet-Frugès, Sigfox Executive Vice President Networks and Operators. “We are delighted to expand our network together with Thinxtra, and we are confident that together, we will enable and strengthen Hong Kong’s vision to be an IoT powerhouse”. said Roswell Wolff, Sigfox’s president, Asia Pacific.
